Thanks for trying out the alpha version of Street Maker :)
(The name is not final)
First off, I would absolutely love to hear any feedback, positive or negative, about the tool.
It would be great to understand your frustrations, what you thought could be better, what is
missing, what could make it easier or more enjoyable. Please send me a message directly via
whichever way I sent you this through, or directly at mart[dot]verdier at Gmail!
This is all pretty barebones for now, and it's nowhere near finished, but I think the product is,
generally, in a usable state.
⚠️ For the best experience of the tool in its current state, here's some tips:
- Save your work often! There are import and export buttons on the left. If the page
refreshes for any reason, you will lose your work. I want to find a way to solve that,
too
- In the settings, you can toggle labels on and off
- You can click on any line to edit it. Lines are not actually smooth, they are just
a series of points, so you're better off clicking on the start or end points to "find" it
- There is no ctrl+Z yet, bear that in mind if you accidentally delete something
- You can hit L for directly making a bike path, and R for a roadway. You can edit their
properties after you're done drawing them
There are a lot of UI/UX changes, especially thinking of quality of life, that I want to make. A lot
of the interactions feel a bit clunky and repetitive, but this will get better. Some things I already
plan on improving:
- Custom preset colours/widths, so that they stay the same every time. Currently, they reset once
you change infra types
- Saving some infra configs as "quick links", which can be clicked once to start drawing, instead
of going through the menu every time
- Satellite map layers swapping
- New types of infrastructure to be more versatile. Right now, changing colours on lines and
polygons already allows a lot of creativity, but I want it more "properly" layered
- Language support. Sorry, non-English speakers, not yet :(
- Snapping lines to each other
- More "single point" bits of infra. Trees, bike logos, etc
Thanks a bunch! -Martin :)
